“DJ DIZZY”

Dean John Athienides a.k.a Dizzy has been Deejaying for the past twenty one years, and is considered to be one of South Africa’s most successful and talented dance dj’s.
Dizzy has played residencies in over hundred night clubs in his career, he has played at the top dance events in the country and has been featured at these events for as long as the trend has been around. Dizzy’s versatility is a huge asset, to his career as he is able to play a wide range of music, from progressive house to Trance. Dizzy has played at Parties hosted Internationally by, Cream, Ministry Of Sound, Global Underground’s Northern Exposure supporting Dj’s Sasha and John Digweed plus Anthony Papa, he has played in Ibiza and at the Love Parade 2000 where he performed for 1.3 million people in Berlin alongside Kai Tracid. As well as Clubs Overseas, Stern radio (Berlin), Matrix (Berlin), XS (Berlin), Time of Change (Spain) and Goliath Party (Hamburg). Dizzy has also played alongside International Dj’s at home in South Africa, the likes of: UK’s Carl Cox, Tall Paul, Tony De Vit, Mr C (The End Club), Germany’s Paul Van Dyk, Commander Tom, Dj Mind-X and very recently played a country wide tour with the infamous Warp Brothers who gave Dizzy credit for being one of the best Deejays they have ever played with.
Dizzy also wowed the South African Public with the Liquidreams Parties and the Camel Experience Party, where he played to crowds of 35000 adorning fans.
More recently he played in Switzerland at gate-ONE in Bern and headlined with the likes of dj Spoke, Mind-X, Max B Grant and Fabio. He also completed a third successful tour to Germany, where he played at the Goliath Event in Hamburg with Commander Tom to a crowd of 15,000.
Talking Albums, Dizzy’s Ministry Of Sound-Trance Nation CD, was recognised and praised by Ministry Of Sound U.K for outstanding mixing and track selection and is said to be the first of its kind in South Africa.
Dizzy is in the process of writing and producing his 29th album, called “DIZZY-
Spectrum 7 the Final Edition”. The album will feature 12 original tracks comprising of a HardTrance.
His latest release is a new project Called Afri-Danz which features many Afrikaans classics that have all been remixed By Dizzy with a little more “Doof Doof” than normal. The Album Has been released all over South Africa and was recently featured at no.16 on the top 20 albums on RSG radio.
Titles won by Dizzy include recently winning the Crystal Award for South Africa’s Top Dj by People Magazine also the Dj Battlefield Dj competition.
Dizzy currently has five original / remix productions in circulation, with his latest two singles currently being featured on two new dance compilations, there latest hit single “so much Luv”
Has gone into the top 5 songs World wide on www.djdownload.com and is currently being played on UJFM & 5fm and has also just been signed by Universal Holland and Zooland Records, who have signed the release to 9 record labels world wide.
Dizzy has also just launched his new Dizzmania Music Academy where he is teaching DJ lessons and Music production using Cubase 4 and Reason 4 as well as Piano lesson up to grade 5.
Media Exposure
Currently Dizzy has a 3 hour weekly radio show (The HouseFactor) which airs in South Africa on 95.4 UJFM or www.ujfm.co.za (live streaming). The UJFM show is also aired on KOVSIE FM, Bloemfontein’s student campus radio station. Dizzy is currently working on a syndicated show for the international web radio market.
In addition Dizzy is receiving increased coverage in magazine and web publications like Locally Whipped, Zoo and Clubbers Guide.
